Girls Inc. of Kingsport has had plenty of reason to celebrate lately. The organization was named “Affiliate of the Year” for the third year in a row at the Regional Girls Inc. Conference in Memphis.

And, Girls Inc. celebrated its 46th anniversary last week with its Annual Awards Celebration.

“To win this award for the third straight year and to be recognized by our national organization speaks volumes about the quality of programs delivered by our staff and the outstanding work of our volunteers and board of trustees,” said Julie Wright Short, president/CEO of Girls Inc.

In addition to being named “Affiliate of the Year,” Girls Inc. received the “Expansion Award,” an honor given to a Girls Inc. chapter for serving the most girls in Tennessee.

Also, Girls Inc. Board of Trustee Gordon Hertel, of Kingsport, received the “Volunteer of the Year Award” for his outstanding service to the nonprofit organization.

Girls Inc. celebrated these honors, along with its 46th anniversary, during the Annual Awards Celebration.

Emily Kilgore Thompson was named Woman of Excellence. Alumna of the Year was Ashlei Bunche, and Girl of the Year went to Bree Poff.
