December 2nd, 2011 4:18 am by staff report

“Let’s Sing Together!”is the theme of the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy’s 2011-2012 concert season.

“Our choirs are privileged to collaborate with so many wonderful groups this year that this theme just seemed perfect,”said MECCA Artistic Director Jane DeLoach Morison.

The Christmas concert season will be highlighted by several collaborations with area ensembles, including the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony of the Mountains and the Voices of the Mountains.
The East Tennessee Children’s Choir, which will perform John Rutter’s“Mass of the Children”next spring with the Civic Chorale, will perform this Christmas with both the Johnson City Symphony and the Symphony of the Mountains. The Highlands Youth Ensemble and newly formed Bella Voce will join with ETCC to sing again with JCSO in its public concert, “Home for the Holidays,”on Dec. 17 at Seeger Chapel on the campus of Milligan College. On Dec. 3, ETCC, Da Capo, HYE, and Bella Voce will join with the Symphony of the Mountains and Voices of the Mountains for the Wellmont Holiday Concert at the Toy F. Reid Auditorium in Kingsport.

Both HYE and ETCC have been invited to sing again this Christmas at the Biltmore Estate for its Christmas Candlelight Evenings.

The MECCA Choristers, an enthusiastic group of 20 young singers in grades one through three, will perform with all the MECCA choirs at the annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Tenn., and they will sing for the program “The Gift of Christmas”on Dec. 18 at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol.

This year, MECCA welcomes a new ensemble to its ranks.

“Bella Voce is a wonderful group of high school ladies. I am really thrilled that they will get to perform with the Johnson City Symphony, the Symphony of the Mountains and for the Abingdon Community Christmas and the Bristol Blue Stocking Club,”Morison said. “So many of our young ladies have been named as National Honor Choir members, and it is great to feature their amazing talents. They have a wonderful sound, and I cannot wait for our region to hear them.”
