Sunday Stories

Share your favorite holiday traditions

November 23rd, 2011 3:32 pm by Staff Report

The holidays are upon us and Sunday Stories is inviting readers to celebrate with us by sharing your stories and photographs in Sunday Scrapbook.

It only takes a few minutes to send in a picture or story via email or, if you prefer, by mail. We take care of the rest. We'll even let you know when you can expect to see it published.

So what are you waiting for?

Start out by sending us a short story (300 words or less) about your favorite holiday tradition or your favorite holiday memory. We'll accept those through noon, Friday, Dec. 2.

Then, as you move through the holidays, keep your camera close at hand and remember Sunday Scrapbook when you sit down to share those photos on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere. Simply add an email to Sunday Scrapbook to the list!

We'd love to see all of your holiday favorites - be it photos from Thanksgiving, Black Friday shopping lines, holiday decorations, or special events like parades, parties, and family trips to Dollywood or Biltmore.

And, remember, we also welcome photos from everyday life, including sporting events, celebrations, family gatherings, vacations and outings.

Here are some ideas to help get you started:

* Tell us about past Holiday Bloops and Blunders. Share a story about the funniest thing that's ever happened during one of your family gatherings.

* Share your Santa Train photos.

* Tell us about your most cherished holiday tradition.

* Send in pictures of your community all dressed up for the holidays.

* Tell us about your Themed Christmas Tree. How did it get started?

* Take lots of pictures at the kids' Christmas concerts, plays and activities, and send those in.

All you have to do is grab your camera and take some photos. Or take a few minutes to share those stories!

The photos should be sent in jpg format, and should be approximately 5 x 7 in size, resolution 200 dots per inch, or a total file size not less than 1 megabyte. Be sure to send the photos as attachments to an email, and not as a link to any outside site. Make sure you identify the folks in the picture, as well as the person submiting them, so that all your friends and family members will recognize them in the scrapbook.

The word count for stories should not exceed 300 words. Make sure to include your name, as the person submitting it, and a phone number or email address where we can reach you (Don't worry: It won't be published) just in case we have any questions.

Email your contributions (along with your name and address) to: sundayscrapbook@timesnews.net.

Or mail them to: Holiday Scrapbook, Attn: Carmen Musick, Kingsport Times-News, 701 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662. For more information, contact Carmen at 423-723-1435.
