RICHMOND — Bright lights, big city.

Eastside got off to a slow start Friday in the semifinals of the VHSL Group A, Division 2 volleyball tournament at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.

But after losing the first game and falling behind by as many as eight points in the second, the Lady Spartans rallied for a 19-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15 win over Stuarts Draft.

The victory sends Eastside (25-3) up against undefeated Mathews (29-0) today at 3 p.m. for the state championship.

“We came out a little flat in the first game,” said Eastside coach Brianne Casteel. “Maybe the girls were nervous since it was our first time at the state tournament.”
