Sunday Stories

Be part of our Holiday Scrapbook

November 14th, 2011 9:11 am by Carmen Musick

Sunday Stories is gearing up for the holidays and we want our readers to join in the celebration. Throughout the holidays, we will feature themed pages showcasing your favorite holiday photos and stories. There are basically two ways to get involved.

Share your stories.

From your favorite holiday traditions to those famous (or infamous) bleeps and blunders, we invite you to share your stories with us. If you have a picture that helps illustrate your story, send that in too. We'll take the best stories received each week and showcase them in Sunday Scrapbook.

This month and next, we are particularly interested in stories about:

Cherished Holiday Traditions: Whether they're sweet or silly, age-old or brand new, holiday traditions are a part of nearly everyone's celebration. Maybe it's a favorite family recipe or an annual event or attraction that you refuse to miss. Maybe you journey across the mountain to cut down your Christmas tree, or snuggle up in your pajamas and go out looking at holiday lights. Whatever the tradition, we want to hear about it.

Holiday Bloops and Blunders: Everyone has had them. They're the stories that start out with 'You remember that time when..." and end with things like the turkey was still frozen when it came time to serve the meal or that year when the cat knocked over the Christmas tree. We invite you to share 'those stories.' If you have pictures to illustrate them, all the better. Send those, too!

Home for the Holidays: How does your town or community celebrate the holidays? From family gatherings, decorations and picturesque scenes to holiday parades and special events like The Santa Train, we want to showcase all that comes to mind when one thinks of being "home for the holidays" in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Send us your pictures or write in and tell us what's special to you about being "home for the holidays."

Share your photos.

We also invite you to share your holiday photos with us. From family outings and visits with Santa to decorations and wintertime fun, Sunday Stories offers readers an opportunity to share their photographs in Sunday Scrapbook. Some photos we'd love to see include:

Visits with Santa: Are you visiting Santa this year? Snap a photo of your own. We can't use the professional ones, but we'd love to see snapshots of you and your loved ones with jolly old St. Nick. In fact, we'll be watching for them this December!! So send them in!

Holiday Pet Photos: Do you dress up your pet for the holidays? We'd love to share pictures of Santa's furry friends all decked out in their holiday best.

Themed Christmas Trees: Do you decorate a themed Christmas tree? If so, we want to know about it. So snap some photos and send them in. Include some information about how it got started and how you've amassed the collection that hangs from its branches.

Are you ready to get started? Well, then grab your camera and take some photos. Or take a few minutes to share those stories!

The photos should be sent in jpg format, and should be approximately 5 x 7 in size, resolution 200 dots per inch, or a total file size not less than 1 megabyte. Be sure to send the photos as attachments to an email, and not as a link to any outside site. Make sure you identify the folks in the picture, so that all your friends and family members will recognize them in the scrapbook.

The word count for stories should not exceed 300 words. Make sure to include your name, as the person submitting it, and a phone number or email address where we can reach you (Don't worry: It won't be published) just in case we have any questions.

Email your contributions (along with your name and address) to: Or mail them to: Holiday Scrapbook, Attn: Carmen Musick, Kingsport Times-News, 701 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.
