GATE CITY — The Blue Devils managed to bottle up Dan River’s sensational running back for an entire half of football on Saturday afternoon.
But once the cork was popped on Dan River’s first play from scrimmage in the second half, Trey Edmunds and the Wildcats could not be contained.
Edmunds rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns as Dan River flipped a 10-0 halftime deficit into a 33-10 victory, abruptly ending Gate City’s defense of the Group A, Division 2 state championship in the first round of the VHSL playoffs at Legion Field.
The Blue Devils were able to shut out Dan River in the first half, limiting the Wildcats to 83 yards of total offense over the first two quarters.
But following a Gate City punt at the start of the third quarter, Edmunds hit a hole on the right side of the line and didn’t stop until he crossed the goal line.comments powered by Disqus
