November 7th, 2011 4:09 am by staff report

The Village at Allandale, formerly Kingsport Senior House celebrated its first Quilt Show last Monday, Oct. 31.

In order to enter the competition, the residents at The V illage must have made the quilt that was being entered. Throughout October, ballots were collected as the community voted on the award-winning quilt. Each quilt received votes, an indicator of the quality work performed by these quileters.

Entrants included quilts handmade by residents of the Margie’s Meadow building. Quilts contestants were Eunice Salyer, Betty Bright, Helen Eachus, Mary Jane Hotchkiss and Vivian Long. The winner of the quilt show was Mary Jane Hotchkiss with her quilted, “Gateway to Morning.”

Pastor Robert Taylor announced the award winner last Monday at a reception honoring all quilt contestants. Family members, elders and staff members attended the honors reception.
