The award-wining bluegrass group Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out is celebrating 20 years as one of the genre’s most awarded and influential groups with a brand new album — “Prime Tyme.”
To kick off the CD’s release, the band will perform at the Jonesborough Bluegrass Concert Series this weekend.
Fresh off winning the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) Male Vocalist of the Year award for the second consecutive year, Moore fronts one of the most popular bands in bluegrass history.
IIIrd Tyme Out has garnered over 50 industry accolades since its inception in 1991, including being named the IBMA’s Vocal Group of the Year for seven years in a row.
This weekend’s CD release event and concert will give fans in Jonesborough the opportunity to purchase “Prime Tyme” before its planned street date of Oct. 25.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22 and will also include performances by Cumberland River and Blue Edition.
The Jonesborough Bluegrass Concert Series takes place at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center, 117 Boone St.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
Known for its a cappella renditions of many songs and an instrumentation that provides quality sound to the group’s vocal blend, Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out maintains a heavy touring schedule that has included many performances on the Grand Ole Opry, as well as GAC and RFD channel programs.
In addition to Moore, the band’s current lineup includes Steve Dilling, Donnie Carver, Justen Haynes, Wayne Benson and Edgar Loudermilk.
The band boasts over 16 recordings to date and its self-titled CD, released last year, has been on Billboard’s Top 50 Bluegrass chart for retail sales since February 2010.
The first single from the new CD, “If Your Heart Should Ever Roll This Way Again” is already climbing the bluegrass charts and currently sits at No. 12 on this month’s National Bluegrass Survey Top 30.
