JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — The Gray Fossil Site will celebrate National Fossil Day on Saturday with behind-the-scenes tours and other free activities.

Tours of the paleontology lab and collections area will be available. Visitors can also search for micro-fossils, including marine specimens from Aurora, N.C., and Miocene-age fossils from Gray that will be hidden in stations throughout the site's museum.

Additionally, visitors will be able to create and take home their own plaster fossil cast.

The site in Washington County was unearthed in 2000 and has since produced a rich supply of animal fossils. East Tennessee State University operates the site.
