Movie Scores: How the critics rated this week's new movies

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zoe Saldana kicks all kinds of butt as a sexy, slinky assassin in "Colombiana," but the movie itself isn't exactly killing with the critics.

The action flick is drawing slightly below-average reviews in its opening weekend. AP Movie Critic Christy Lemire described it as "hammy and muscular ... but knowingly so, and that's what makes it solid, late-summer escapist fun." She gave the movie two and a half stars out of four.

Also opening nationwide is the comedy "Our Idiot Brother," starring Paul Rudd as a slacker who mooches off his three disapproving sisters, played by Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel. Lemire gave the movie one and a half stars, saying: "It makes no sense — there's a gap of logic and emotion that's hard to overcome."

There's also the horror remake "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" from producer and co-writer Guillermo del Toro. AP Movie David Germain gave it two stars, saying: "Savage and ugly as the tiny monsters are in 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark,' they're not as frightening as the filmmakers would have you believe.
