KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Mets opened their final home series of the season with a loss, getting shelled early and falling to the Danville Braves 11-2 on Monday.

Danville (35-25) scored three runs in the first, followed by a four-run second that put the K-Mets (33-27) in a hole. The Braves added a run in the third and piled on three more in the fourth to build an 11-0 lead.

Kingsport finally got on the board in the fifth when Tant Shepherd tripled to lead off the inning and was singled home by Julio Concepcion. Jonathan Clark scored the K-Mets’ other run in the ninth off a fielding error.

Chase Larsson was 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Danville. Fernando De Los Santos added two hits, a pair of walks, knocked in two runs and scored twice.

Juan Carlos Gamboa was the only K-Met with mulitiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a double. Kingsport stranded nine runners and went just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Kingsport has lost two straight for the first time in three weeks after having won the previous 14 of 16.

The two teams will get together again tonight at 7 o’clock before playing Kingsport’s final home game of the regular season on Wednesday.
