YUMA -- A Yuma man was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning following a single-car wreck in Scott County.
According to Virginia State Police, David Crabtree, 22, Yuma, was badly injured when his 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck struck a tree while traveling near the Tennessee state line along Yuma Rd. (Route 614).
VSP Trooper B.K. Hubbard said Crabtree’s truck ran off the left side of the road before striking several mailboxes and a tree.
Crabtree was reportedly trapped in the vehicle, which was totaled as a result of the impact, and had to be extricated by emergency rescue personnel.
Hubbard declined to comment on the cause of the accident, noting it was still under VSP investigation.
Scott County Central Dispatch said Crabtree was transported by MedFlight to Holston Valley Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.
The wreck occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. Authorities did not clear the scene until approximately 10:30.
The Scott County Life Saving Crew and Gate City Fire Department joined the VSP in responding to the accident.
