July 29th, 2011 2:19 pm by Kacie Breeding

A Sullivan County jail inmate died Thursday, and the body has been sent for an autopsy.

According to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office news release, Donald Wayne Greer, 48, 909 Marion Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday after being placed in a cell by himself while "de-toxing" from "various controlled substances."

SCSO spokeswoman Leslie Earhart states in the release that Greer was put in the cell by himself to be monitored. At approximately 8:45 p.m. Wednesday,  corrections officers "noticed" Greer "appeared not to be breathing" and alerted medical staff.
The jail's medical staff performed CPR until EMS arrived. Greer was then taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. Thursday.
According to Earhart, Greer had been in the jail since the Bristol Tennessee Police brought him in on Monday on charges of resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice.
