'Suspicious package' tip in Sullivan County leads to drug arrests

A tip about suspicious package in Sullivan County led to the arrest of a Johnson City pair on drug charges.

According to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office news release, Danny Santarone, 51, and Rachel Santarone, 18, both of 146 Hopper Road, Johnson City, were arrested Saturday after picking up a package police a caller said might contain illegal drugs.

SCSO vice detectives went to where the caller said Danny Santarone would pick up the package, and the pair were stopped shortly after picking it up.

Police report the package contained a baggy of white powder believed to be cocaine, more than 100 hydrocodone pills, more than 40 oxycodone pills, and nearly 60 dilaudid pills. Police say brass knuckles were also found in Rachel Santarone's purse.

Danny Santarone was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule 2 drugs for resale, possession of Schedule 3 drugs for resale and driving without a license.

Rachel Santarone was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule 2 drugs for resale, possession of Schedule 3 drugs for resale and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both suspects were jailed in lieu of $50,000 bonds.
