Actress Elizabeth Davidson will portray Harriet Beecher Stowe in the Tri-Cities Civil War Rount Tavle event at Fun Fest on July 18
In honor of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the Tri-Cities Civil War Round Table will hold special programs every other month between now and 2015 corresponding to an event that took place 150 years ago.
“We’re not re-creating. We’re looking at it from an historical standpoint, with historians and speakers coming in that takes you back,” said program chairman Wayne Strong.
On July 18, as part of Fun Fest, the Tri-Cities Civil War Round Table and the city of Kingsport’s Cultural Arts Division will present “A Civil War Evening,” featuring period music and poetry, and the one-act play “Harriet Beecher Stowe: A Literary Soldier.” The free event will be held from 6:45 to 9 p.m. in the Renaissance Center Theater, 1200 Center St. No tickets are required. The theater seats 350.
The program will open with Conny Nagy Ottway performing Civil War songs. Ottway, who lives in Knoxville, was raised in a musical family and after graduating from Murray State University in Kentucky, she created a musical career that has spanned 40 years.
