Closed: Cherokee no-fish zone to remain in effect this summer

July 8th, 2011 4:53 am by George Thwaites

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will continue its policy of closing a specified zone of Cherokee Lake to fishing during the hottest months of summ e r.

A study conducted by the agency last August confirmed that striped bass still concentrate in the area above Cherokee Dam from mid-July until early Septemb e r.

“The study showed that striped bass were still using the refuge area,” said Bobby Wilson, TWRA’s chief of fisheries. “The fish were heavily concentrated in the area and catch and release during the summer months would continue to cause high mortality on the striped bass.”
