KINGSPORT — Safety concerns that have become prevalent in recent years will be eased somewhat next spring when a different type of bat is introduced to high school baseball.
The change should take the game back closer to what it was like before the inception of the metal bat.
The BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution) is replacing the hollow-core aluminum and composite models, and supposedly will produce the same performance factors as the top-quality wood bat.
This new standard could turn the baseball bat world on its head. The BBCOR, distanceand speed-wise, should hit like wood — only with less pop. It has less of a trampoline effect.
