KINGSPORT — The Coca-Cola Classic is an ideal venue for high school baseball teams to iron out the kinks and get ready to compete in their respective districts.
“We love coming here,’’ Oak Ridge coach Thomas Froning said Thursday night even though his team lost 12-1 to Dobyns-Bennett.
“The tournament enables you to build pitching depth. We especially enjoy playing on this surface (at J. Fred Johnson Stadium).’’
Oak Ridge (6-9) didn’t finish the night empty-handed. The Wildcats defeated Gate City 8-2 on the strong pitching of senior Jake McLaughlin, who also swung an effective bat.
