Sullivan sales tax collections up in December compared to '09

     BLOUNTVILLE — Countywide sales tax collections, as a whole, were up in December compared to a year earlier, according to a report prepared by Sullivan County’s Accounts and Budgets Office.

   Those collections came back to the county and its cities as revenue this month.

   The total, countywide, for December 2009 was nearly $4.35 million. The total for December 2010 was more than $4.77 million — an increase nearly $427,000 or roughly 9.8 percent.

   Businesses in the city of Kingsport generated most of the growth, according to the report.

   Sales tax revenues for the seven-month period included in the report were up about 2 percent, countywide, compared to the same months of the prior fiscal y e a r.
