KINGSPORT — It was supposed to be a quarterfinal-round game of the District 1-AAA girls basketball tournament. What it looked like was a cage match in the WWE.
Faces were slapped, elbows went flying and star players were knocked out of the game with injuries.
On Monday night, when the final bell rang on this match, Dobyns-Bennett had upended Sullivan South 63-46 and earned a berth in Wednesday’s district semifinals. The Lady Indians (21-5) will take on Tennessee High (23-6) at 7:30 p.m. at Science Hill.
“This was a hard game,’’ said D-B coach Roger France. “There was a lot of pressure on both teams. You lose and your season is over.
“It was a tough draw having to play a rival. South is a very good sixth seed. We had a war with them last time we played.’’
