KINGSPORT — Take it from veteran Charlie Bayless, to be a consistent winner in basketball a team’s offensive base must be inside the paint.
Bayless, the state’s winningest boys coach with 957 victories, suspected Sullivan North — a 62-48 winner in the Three Rivers Conference game — had beaten his Happy Valley Warriors Thursday night with a high percentage of close-in baskets.
A glimpse at the shot chart by Bayless verified it.
“I knew it,’’ he said. “Look at the number of field goals North hit underneath. That will beat you. (The Raiders) got the ball under the goal. Their inside game decided it.’’
North (15-10, 3-6) sank 72 percent of its two-point attempts to sew up the No. 4 seed for the forthcoming District 1-AA tournament scheduled next week on the Raiders’ floor.
