Update: The motorcyclist has been identified as Steven M. Hobbs, 22, of 704 Sir Echo Drive, Kingsport. The driver of the Volvo was Rebecca S. Ayers, 50, from Blountville. Ms. Ayers and her passengers, Lilly Ayers and Emma Ayers, also from Blountville, were not injured.
KINGSPORT — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when his vehicle collided with a car on Lebanon Road approximately 2,000 feet east of Fort Henry Drive.
The Kingsport Police Department was notified of the crash about 6:50 p.m.
Police investigators said a 2006 Honda motorcycle was westbound on Lebanon Road, and a 1998 Volvo was eastbound on Lebanon Road.
For unknown reasons, the Honda crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane. Once in the eastbound lane, the motorcycle went onto its right side, skidded and struck the Volvo on the right front corner. After impact the Honda continued westbound, exited the roadway and came to rest in a field.
The driver of the Honda received fatal injuries. Three occupants in the Volvo were not injured.
Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. No names were released late Thursday pending notification of next of kin. No charges are expected in the investigation.
