NORTON — After losing to J.J. Kelly on Friday night, J.I. Burton’s girls basketball team seems certain to fall out of the top spot in The Associated Press’ Group A poll.
Don’t expect Lady Raiders coach Mike Goforth to hang his head over that development.
“You’re dealing with high school kids. You can tell them until you’re blue in the face, ‘You’ve got to come prepared every night.’ But until it happens, sometimes, it’s a really good learning experience for us,” Goforth said after falling by a 54-44 margin to the Lady Indians.
The Lady Indians (11-2, 2-0), ranked third in the Group A poll, dealt Burton (10-2, 0-1) its first loss to a Lonesome Pine District opponent since Kelly prevailed in the championship game of the 2008-09 LPD tourney.
