Dobyns-Bennett loses on Day One of Arby's Classic

BRISTOL, Tenn. — For one half, Dobyns-Bennett ran stride for stride with Mentor, one of the top prep programs in the state of Ohio.


The Indians glided through Mentor’s full-court pressure, attacked the rim with ease and went into halftime with a 46-37 advantage.


But the Cardinals put the brakes on the Tribe in the third quarter, took the air out of the ball in the fourth and held on to claim an 83-78 victory in the first round of the Arby’s Classic on Monday.


The Cardinals switched from full-court zone pressure to straight man-to-man after halftime and focused on limiting Derrick Steele’s touches. That disrupted the flow of D-B’s offense, allowing the Cardinals to outscore the Tribe 25-10 during the pivotal third period.
