Families bond over special memories handed from one generation to the next

Homemade Christmas ornaments and bought ornaments that reflect event of the past year have been an important family tradition for Ginger Little, left, Sandra Lane and Cade Little. Ned Jilton II photo.

Ginger Little loves the holidays and everything about them.  She loves the decorating, the baking, the shopping, the festivities, the child-like wonder that sets in with kids from 1 to 92.

Most of all, though, she loves the traditions — things like donning pajamas to drive around looking at Christmas lights, leaving cookies for Santa and opening presents on Christmas morning.

Her favorite holiday tradition, however, was started for her before she’d even celebrated her very first Christmas.

“My favorite Christmas tradition is my ornament collection,” Little said.

“My mom and my Aunt Barbara started my collection my very first Christmas (way back in 1970), and my friends and family added to it through the years.”

Since that time, Little has amassed “probably three trees’ worth of ornaments.”
