Woman creates truffles to raise funds for charities

Brenda Barnicki has a degree in chemical engineering and a passion for chocolate. She’s creatively figured out a way to share that passion with others and help local charities at the same time.

In July, Barnicki launched Bellafina Chocolates, a home-based business where she creates chocolate truffles. A big part of her mission is to improve the lives of others, so she established the Bellafina Cares Fundraiser and Charitable Giving Program to help worthy organizations raise the funds they need to help others. In 2010, Bellafina will donate at least 50 percent of its net profits to organizations that are helping children and promoting literacy.

A native of St. Louis, Barnicki was hired by Eastman Chemical Co. in 1990. She and her husband Scott have a 10-year-old son, Matthew.

“My husband and I have a real passion for children and literacy projects,” she said. “We always attributed our success to our parents’ emphasis on literacy.”
