Charles D. White, 18, of 212 Lewis Lane, apartment 508, Kingsport, and Dustin S. Hagood, 20, of 1350 Walkertown Road, Chuckey, Tenn.
Two men, ages 18 and 20, have been arrested after a Kingsport officer in an unmarked police car allegedly witnessed an 80 mph street race on East Stone Drive.
The incident occurred Wednesday at 11:05 p.m. According to an arrest report, a Toyota 4Runner and Honda Civic DelSol were observed driving through the parking lot of East Stone Commons, 2003 North Eastman Road.
The reporting officer, who was in an unmarked car, says the Honda quickly accelerated and turned sharply, "in an effort to 'slide' in the parking lot." Police report both vehicles left East Tone Commons and proceeded to the traffic light at North Eastman Road and Stone Drive.
"As the light turned green both vehicles began accelerating rapidly through the left turn," reads the officer's narrative. "The vehicles continued accelerating to the point where I estimated their speeds in excess of 80 mph."
Police say the two vehicles traveled at 80 mph on Stone Drive for about a mile and a half. They then slowed and continued to Hog Wild Saloon, 1009 West Stone Drive, where they entered the parking lot and were approached by officers in marked cars.
The driver of each vehicle was arrested and charged with drag racing and speeding. They are identified as Charles D. White, 18, of 212 Lewis Lane, apartment 508, Kingsport, and Dustin S. Hagood, 20, of 1350 Walkertown Road, Chuckey, Tenn.comments powered by Disqus
