BLOUNTVILLE — The first round of the District 1-AAA volleyball tournament was lacking in drama as the heavyweights of the Big 8 Conference turned in dominating performances.

Top-seeded Sullivan South was rock solid in a 25-10, 25-18, 25-9 victory over No. 8 Daniel Boone, and Dobyns-Bennett, the No. 2 seed after losing a coin flip, was nearly flawless in a 25-11, 25-5, 25-14 win over No. 7 David Crockett.

Science Hill, the No. 4 seed, shocked No. 5 Tennessee High with a fast start and never let up en route to a resounding 25-9, 25-10, 25-19 victory.

The only higher seed to struggle was No. 3 Sullivan Central. The Lady Cougars dropped a game against No. 6 Volunteer before escaping with a 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22 victory.

The Lady Rebels turned in an effort befitting a top seed, excelling in all aspects against an overmatched yet highly motivated Lady Trailblazers squad.
