Memory Lane: Davey Bledsoe was one of world's greatest racquetball players

Name: Davey Bledsoe


Born: March 7, 1951


Where: Kingsport

High School/Colleges: Dobyns-Bennett/Tennessee, Milligan, East Tennessee State


Then: Anemic as a teenager, Davey Bledsoe had the desire but not the stamina to be a star athlete. In junior high he stood 5-foot-7 and weighed 98 pounds, and he wasn’t much bigger in high school.


Bledsoe played baseball, ran cross country and gave track a try. His physician recommended that he quit.


It took a few years but that all changed. He remembered his father, Buck, saying: “You’ve got the mark of a great ballplayer.’’
