False alarm: Kingsport woman arrested after calling 911, lying about fire

September 14th, 2010 1:59 pm by Rain Smith

A 60-year-old Kingsport woman has been arrested after allegedly lying about a blaze in her home, "to get the fire department to respond."

Constance S. Klemp, of 812 Burwind Court, apartment No. 4., has been charged with aggravated misuse of 911. She was arrested at 1 p.m. Monday, shortly after three fire units hurried to her residence.

Klemp allegedly called 911 and reported smoke was coming from behind her freezer and she could smell a fire. Firefighters responded to find no smoke, nor any damage to the freezer or electrical socket.

Police say that upon questioning Klemp admitted to lying about the fire, "to get the fire department to respond."

Klemp was arrested and transported to the Kingsport city jail.
