A motorist allegedly found passed out at a prominent Kingsport intersection — with car running, headlights on bright and driver's side door open — has been arrested on multiple drug charges.
According to a Kingsport police report, the woman was found at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning on American Way, at the intersection with East Stone Drive. An officer reports stopping to check out a 1997 Saturn, "sitting in the middle of the road."
Christy Dawn Lee, 30, of 4616 Leaning Pine Road, Big Stone Gap, Va., was allegedly in the driver's seat. However, she was, "slumped over with the driver door open," forcing police to shake her several times before awaking.
Police say the engine was running and headlights were on bright. Multiple pills bottles were allegedly visible in the passenger's seat, while an uncapped liquor bottle was in the center console. Police say Lee was "very disoriented" and "drooling."
The officer reports asking Lee to step from the vehicle multiple times, but she, "kept passing out." Police say she couldn't tell them her name, and didn't know how she came to be at the intersection.
Since Lee allegedly couldn't stand on her own or stay awake, field sobriety tests were not administered. Upon searching her police found a glass pipe, two blue pills, another open liquor bottle, a metal grater and copper scrub pad. Police say she also had prescribed medication which had been grated.
Lee was arrested and charged with DUI, simple possession of schedule IV drugs, simple possession of schedule II drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Upon being booked into the city jail a female jailer discovered two small bags containing a white substance.
