A Kingsport woman was arrested Saturday night after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend with a can of green beans.
Police says they responded to the couple's home to find "several food items scattered throughout the front yard," the victim bleeding from the back of the head, and a can of dented vegetables purported to be the weapon.
Brenda L. Jones, 24, of 820 Fairmont Ave., was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault.
According to a police report, at 8 p.m. officers responded to the couple's Fairmont residence. The victim, 23, allegedly had a bleeding wound on the back left side of his head.
He told officers that he and his girlfriend had been arguing, so when she went outside he locked her out. But Jones allegedly, "kicked in the rear door, chased him around, then hit him in the head with the can."
EMS transported the alleged victim for treatment at Holston Valley Medical Center. Police report Jones wasn't on scene when they arrived, but was reached by telephone.
Jones then met with police and relayed her side of the incident. She said she had tried to leave the residence but her boyfriend would not let her. She claimed the door frame — allegedly damaged when she kicked in the door — had actually broken when her boyfriend slammed it to keep her from exiting.
According to Jones, she gathered her things, with her boyfriend grabbing a few items and throwing them into the yard. Jones said her boyfriend went into a bedroom, shut the door, then reemerged bleeding from his head.
Jones stated that he then, "threatened to call the police and blame her for (the injury)." When the man, "ran down to a neighbors house," Jones says she left the residence on foot.
Police say that due to statements and evidence at the scene, Jones was determined to be the primary aggressor. She was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault and transported to the Kingsport jail.
