Kingsport man charged with manufacturing marijuana

Jeffery Lynn Johnson, 39, 0f 6016 Sue St.

According to Sullivan County court affidavits and an arrest warrant, a Kingsport man has been charged with manufacturing marijuana for resale.

On June 30 the Sheriff's Office received a tip that marijuana was being grown at 6016 Sue St. A deputy in the area responded to the home, with a woman who was present consenting to a search of the residence.

According to an affidavit, nothing was found in the home. But when the deputy searched a yard barn on the property, "a lot of green leafy material, lights and other equipment," were allegedly found.

According to a detective who was then called to the scene, two plastic containers contained leafy green material, with more hanging up to dry. He also reports finding five grow lights, potting soil, miracle grow and timers. The affidavit says all of the plants were sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation lab to be identified and weighed.

The following day a warrant was obtained charging Jeffery Lynn Johnson, 39, address listed as the Sue Street residence, with manufacturing marijuana, possession of schedule IV drugs for resale and maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are sold stored or used. On Friday he was located at 5012 Ellen St., arrested and transported to the Sullivan County jail.
