Blountville lawn mower driver charged with DUI

James Kevin Hall, 36, of 1808 Blountville Boulevard

A Blountville man has been charged with DUI after allegedly driving his riding mower about two and a half miles, "trying to locate yards to mow for work."

Police say they were alerted to the man by callers advising a man on a lawn mower, "exposing himself to passing drivers."

According to a report at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, at about 10:20 a.m. Sunday deputies were dispatched to the area of 1140 Big Hollow Road. The deputy says he found a riding lawn mower stuck in a ditch, with James Kevin Hall, 36, trying to get it out.

"Mr. Hall advised he had to urinate and tried to hide himself," reports the deputy.

When asked for identification, Hall allegedly provided a probation card. Police say a check of his ID revealed his licence was revoked for a prior DUI conviction.

Hall, who the deputy says had slurred speech and swayed side to side, told the deputy he had drank a six pack of beer at his home, 1808 Blountville Boulevard. He allegedly said he had driven the mower the two and a half miles to his current location, "trying to locate yards to mow for work."

When asked to undergo field sobriety tests, Hall allegedly, "continually advised he could not do the tasks because he had drank too much, but would try." The deputy reports his attempts were unsuccessful.

Hall was arrested and charged with driving on a revoked licence and driving under the influence. At the Sullivan County Jail he submitted a breath test, allegedly revealing his blood alcohol content level to be .18.
