The manager of a Kingsport Rent-A-Center has been arrested and charged with selling $3,500 worth of store merchandise for personal profit.

According to a report at the Kingsport Police Department, Robert C. Shell, 39, of 100 Peavler Drive, was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with embezzlement of more than $1,000.

Police report Shell is the manager of Rent-A-Center, 1649 East Stone Drive. The chain's regional loss prevention manager had allegedly obtained a written confession from Shell, in which he admitted to the crimes.

Shell allegedly told the responding officer he had been selling store merchandise for personal profit from March of this year through last week.

While a detailed list of the items is not immediately available, the value of the merchandise is estimated at approximately $3,500.
