KINGSPORT - A 50-year-old man in a wheelchair -- who police said "admitted to taking several types of medications" -- has been arrested after allegedly shooting a duck at the Kingsport skate park.

A Kingsport police arrest report says the incident occurred at 6:19 Tuesday night. Officers responded to the Scott Adams Memorial Skate Park, 821 West Center St., on a report of a man in a wheelchair firing a gun.

The responding officer reports locating the suspect nearby, on the Green Belt. The man, James Edward Hutson, 50, of 618 Branch St., Kingsport, allegedly carried a Colt .38 special on his right side.

The report says Hutson told the officer he had shot a duck in the creek behind the skate park. Police say the gun was loaded and contained one shell that had not been fired.

A second .38-caliber revolver, unknown make and model, was located in Hutson's right pocket. Police say it had not been fired.

Hutson, who "admitted to taking several types of medications," was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and going armed.
