It’s been just more than one month since Johnson City’s first red light traffic camera focused its digital eye on violators and began generating citations to motorists.
As of Thursday, cameras at three intersections have caused 200 citations to be mailed to violators. Three more intersections have been equipped with the new robotic law enforcement tools, and that number will certainly continue to climb.
“I was e-mailing a colleague of mine recently, and I opened with, ‘Unless you’ve been living on the moon for the last couple of months, you know we have a Traffic Safety Camera Program,” Johnson City Police Capt. Mark Sirois, who is heading the program, told city commissioners Thursday during a program update.
