The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is seeking numerous charges against a Bristol man after he allegedly led a deputy on a high-speed pursuit, then crashed his vehicle into a Piney Flats home.
Police report the car was found on its top in the yard of the residence, which sustained an estimated $30,000 in damages.
According to an offense report, the incident began shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday. A deputy was dispatched to Devault Bridge Road in reference to a reckless driver. When the deputy reached the intersection of Allison Road, Haw Ridge Road and Devault Bridge Road, he allegedly witnessed a 2000 Dodge Caravan run the stop sign.
"The vehicle made a right onto Allison Road and crossed over into my lane of travel," reports the deputy. "I was forced to swerve right, to the shoulder of the roadway, to avoid a head-on collision."
According to the report the deputy turned around to follow the van, observing it turn left onto Rocky Springs Road. The deputy says the van sped up, obviously trying to flee the patrol car.
Near La Doux Vie Private Drive the deputy lost sight of the van. But after driving on for a short distance, the officer was waved down by a man outside a residence.
The report says the man pointed towards his home, 2798 Rocky Springs Road, where the suspect's van was sitting on its top. The officer reports the van ran straight through a curve, passed between two guardrails and struck the man's home.
The driver, identified as Travis S. Dunn, 32, of 2648-B, Anderson St., Bristol, Tenn., was found halfway out of his vehicle, with his legs pinned underneath the steering wheel. The deputy reports several beer cans in and around the vehicle.
Dunn was transported to Johnson City Medical Center, where he was reportedly treated for broken ribs and minor cuts.
The deputy spoke to residents of the home, with one reporting he was, "standing in the yard near the vehicle's path," when the wreck occurred. The home suffered an estimated $30,000 worth of damage to its foundation, side and basement wall.
Though the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to work the crash scene, the Sheriff's Office is seeking several charges against Dunn. They include reckless driving, reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest and vandalism.
The Sheriff's Office report says an investigation is continuing.comments powered by Disqus
