Three charged in beating, robbery of 99-year-old Hawkins woman

Ricky Lynn Davidson, 43, and Johnny Kay Seals,40, are charged with especially aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and auto burglary.

ROGERSVILLE — Three adults have been charged in the beating and robbery last week of a 99-year-old Hawkins County woman.

The victim, Fern Reynolds, 99, of 102 Route 113, Rogersville, remained listed in poor condition Monday in the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

The alleged beating/robbery occurred last Wednesday, March 10 at the home of Reynolds at 102 Route 113, Rogersville.

Police said four people actually went to the Reynolds residence around 6 p.m. night including Johnny Kay Seals, 40, 207 Carters Valley Loop lot 8, Rogersville; Ricky Lynn Davidson, 43, same address; Davidson’s wife Sharon Jean Davidson, 42, same address; and a 15-year-old male juvenile.

Seals and Ricky Davidson have been charged with especially aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and auto burglary.
Sharon Davidson was charged with especially aggravated burglary and auto burglary.

No charges had been filed against the juvenile as of Monday.

The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office and Hawkins EMS initially responded to a complaint of a Reynolds screaming for help.

The initial emergency responders were met by Seals, Ricky and Sharon Davidson, and the juvenile, who claimed they’d found Reynolds laying on the floor in distress when the came to the residence to ask if a rental property owned by Reynolds’ son was available.

The 911 call about Reynolds needing help was reportedly made by the juvenile.

When Reynolds family got home from the hospital that night they discovered several things had been stolen from the residence and a vehicle including an undisclosed amount of cash, a backpack leaf blower, camouflage Carhart overalls and a camouflage jacket.

The value of the non-cash items stolen was estimated at $370.

Police allege that the two men attacked Reynolds in her garage, knocking her down and then kicking her while she was laying on the garage floor.

Authorities initially believed that Reynolds had fallen. HCSO investigators later determined that Reynolds’ fall wasn’t accidental and she had been beaten.

Police said she suffered broken ribs and other injuries.

When deputies went to the suspects’ residence Thursday night, they allegedly found some of the stolen items.
Ricky Davidson wasn’t home at that time, and he wasn’t arrested until late Saturday night when Hawkins County deputies reportedly found him hiding in an out-building on Lawson Road.

Ricky Davidson was released on $5,000 bond Sunday.

Seals and Sharon Davidson were arraigned Monday in Hawkins County Sessions Court. Substitute Judge Jay Taylor approved a prosecution motion to increase their bond to $50,000 each. They both remained in the Hawkins County Jail Monday.
