Terry L. Bradley, 49, of 300 Morelock Street, was arrested on numerous charges.
KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been arrested on charges of joyriding and evading arrest after refusing to heed to a traffic stop, pulling a car into a wooded area and attempting to flee on foot.
Police say he was apprehended after falling down an embankment, sustaining injuries that required a check at the hospital before heading to jail.
According to an incident report, a woman called Kingsport police at 10:30 Wednesday night, relaying the information that a car she let her granddaughter borrow on Tuesday had not been returned. The woman said her granddaughter’s father, Terry L. Bradley, 49, of 300 Morelock St., was the last person known to have driven the vehicle.
While on the way to Bradley’s house, police received information that Bradley had returned the vehicle, a 1996 Ford Thunderbird, parking it next to the woman’s apartment. But when officers reached the scene, Bradley had left the scene in the car.
Police encountered the vehicle near the intersection of Fort Henry Drive and Thornton Drive. A traffic stop was initiated, with Bradley turning the vehicle into the parking lot of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3025 Fort Henry Drive.
According to police, Bradley made a U-turn, re-entered Fort Henry Drive, then turned right onto Shortridge Place. He allegedly drove the Thunderbird off the road into a wooded area, exited the vehicle and ran down an embankment.
“The suspect fell two or three times trying to get away and I was able to apprehend him,” reads the officer’s report.
While on the ground, about 40 yards from where the vehicle stopped, Bradley allegedly began jerking away from the officer, in an attempt to slide down the embankment and get away. With the assistance of a second officer, Bradley was successfully handcuffed and walked back up the hill.
According to the police report, Bradley was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center for possible injuries sustained when he fell. He was later transported to the city jail on charges of felony evading arrest, driving on a revoked license — third offense, joyriding and resisting arrest.
