House action on traffic camera limits delayed

February 10th, 2010 12:00 am by Staff Report

NASHVILLE - The sponsor of a bill putting new restrictions on operation of traffic surveillance cameras says he will delay a push for passage until April 1, hoping that a comprehensive set of rules on operating the devices can be drafted by then and adopted as part of the legislation.

If the rules are not ready by April 1, House Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Harmon, D-Dunlap, said he will then proceed with the bill and further support legislation to completely abolish ticketing of motorists via camera.

"If that's not putting the pressure on them, I don't know what is," Harmon told the Public Safety Subcommittee of the Transportation Committee.
