East Ridge City Council members voted to place speed cameras on several hazardous roads in the city, but decided to steer clear of any red light cameras.
And, after finding out the city still has access to millions of dollars from a 10-year-old grant, city officials also will begin studying how to build a system of levees to protect the city from the sort of flooding that swept through in it September.
The decision to use speed cameras passed on 3-2 vote at Thursday night’s council meeting. “Our purpose, in my opinion, of doing this falls along the important lines of safety and not to make a budget,” said Mayor Mike Steele.
