Driver hits base of Kingsport hotel sign

A two-vehicle collision in Kingsport has resulted in minor injuries, with a mini-van hitting the base of a hotel's sign.

Police have cited the driver of the van with failure to yield.

The accident occurred at 9:41 a.m. Friday. A 2003 Honda Odyssey driven by Sophia C. Martin, 63, was traveling Tranbarger Drive, approaching the intersection of Lynn Garden Drive.

According to an accident report from Kingsport Police, Martin entered the left turn lane. A 2004 Chrysler Sebring traveling behind Martin entered the other lane to turn right onto Lynn Garden.

Police say Martin then steered her vehicle to the right in an attempt to enter the right turn lane, hitting the Sebring in the left front corner. Martin's van then veered off the road, striking the base of a Super 8 Hotel sign on the corner.

Martin and her passenger, Stella Fields Peters, 85, were transported to Holston valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police charged Martin with failure to failure to yield.
