Fishermen find body in Fort Patrick Henry Lake

October 10th, 2009 12:00 am by Rick Wagner

KINGSPORT — A 79-year-old Kingsport man was pronounced dead Saturday after two fishermen found him floating in Fort Patrick Henry Lake in Warriors Path State Park.

W. Wayne Miller, 4121 Winfield Drive, apparently slipped from the shore into the lake, according to Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman David Boruff.

TVA has ordered an autopsy, the results of which could take eight to 16 weeks, but Boruff said no signs of foul play were evident.

Boruff said at about 10:20 a.m., two fishermen on the lake discovered a body “apparently floating in the water.”

The fishermen contacted state park rangers, who in turn called TVA because it has jurisdiction on the lake. Other emergency service providers went to the scene, where a Sullivan County coroner pronounced Miller dead.

“As best we can tell at this point, he slipped and fell into the water while walking somewhere on the shore,” Boruff said Saturday night shortly after the next of kin was notified and TVA released the identity of the deceased.

Although TVA police ordered an autopsy, Boruff emphasized that no foul play was suspected.

Boruff also said he did not have information about the exact location inside the park on the lake where the body was found nor any information on how long the body may have been in the water.
