Bogus carjacking leads to arrests of 'victim' and home invasion suspect

September 30th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

KNOXVILLE - A Knoxville woman who this morning reported her vehicle had been carjacked at gunpoint ended up in jail when officers determined her claims were bogus.

Although police labeled the carjacking as false, the report did lead to the arrest of a man suspected in a weekend home invasion incident.

The series of events started at 12:03 a.m. when Angelina M. Schaffer, 39, of Knoxville reported her black Nissan Altima had been stolen by two men, according to Knoxville Police Department Lt. Shawna Williams. She reported the armed men had confronted her at the intersection of Baxter Avenue and Beaumont Street when she finished buying an item in a store.
