Blountville kennel owner who imported, sold sick puppies sentenced to federal prison

September 30th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to a report in the Bristol Herald Courier, a Blountville woman has been sentenced to 5 years and 11 months in federal prison for selling sickly, imported puppies from Rebel Ridge Kennels. She must also pay back taxes and restitutions.

In 2007 Gina De'Lynn Price was convicted on charges of tax fraud, wire fraud, Social Security fraud and placed in federal custody. She was also facing three counts of witness tampering.

This week FBI agents testified it was impossible to determine how many customers Price had, but records had revealed she imported 597 dogs through just the Atlanta airport. Over 250 owners reported losses of over one-half million dollars in fees and vet bills in connection with those puppies that were suffering from heart murmurs, canine parvovirus, and hip dysplasia.

U.S. District Court Judge Ronnie Greer said Tuesday he was not moved by Price’s plea for leniency, and that she operated her business in an intentional and calculated manner that involved “lying, cheating and a whole bunch of fraud."
