Pregnant shooting victim, unborn child, returns to Morrisburg home

September 28th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to the Morristown Citizen Tribune Mary Ellen Smith has returned to her Morresburg home five days after her ex-boyfriend, Stephen Pugh Jr., allegedly shot her multiple times in the abdomen in an effort to kill her and their unborn child.

"I was surprised how quickly I got home," the 26-year-old woman said. "I didn’t think I’d be getting out of there (the hosital) that soon. I don’t think they did either."

The unborn daughter, who was unharmed in the Sept. 18 shooting in a Morristown nursing home parking lot, won’t share the name of the man who allegedly tried to take her life.

Smith says Pugh began pressuring her to have an abortion soon after since she became pregnant a little more than seven months ago.

The baby will be called Chloe Danielle Fletcher when she’s born in mid-December. She’ll carry the name of Smith’s fiancé, Robert Fletcher, a member of the Army National Guard who was stationed in Mosul, Iraq when Smith was shot.
