Criminal charges pending in fatal ambulance crash

BUTLER – Criminal charges were expected in an ambulance crash on Tenn. Highway 67 that killed a Mountain City woman en route to a hospital late Tuesday.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Musick said Alicia McCoy, 57, 125 Butler Lane, Mountain City, who had been on a stretcher in the back of the Johnson County Emergency Medical Services ambulance, died in the accident about two miles from the Carter County line in Johnson County.

Brenda J. Buchanan, 51, 1270 Bluefield Ave., Elizabethton, was traveling east on Highway 67 just before 10:30 p.m. when her Chevrolet Lumina crossed the center line and struck the westbound ambulance, Musick said.
