BLUFF CITY — The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Bluff City couple after allegedly finding more than $4,500 worth of OxyContin in their home.

According to police, one of the suspects grabbed a gun when officers arrived but was quickly subdued.

SCSO Capt. Keith Elton said a search warrant was executed early Tuesday morning at 389 Elizabethton Highway, near Bluff City. Elton said an ongoing investigation into drug activity prompted the warrant being issued.

The residents, Shawn Michael Bullen, 26, and Tonya Janie Bullen, 25, were home at the time. Elton said Shawn Bullen grabbed a gun at the sight of the SCSO Vice Unit and SWAT team but was quickly subdued and secured.

During execution of the warrant, officers reported locating 57 80 milligram OxyContin pills valued at more than $4,500. They also seized $3,721 in cash, a 2003 Mustang convertible, 2006 Honda Civic, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2006 Yamaha motorcycle, two flat-screen TVs, cell phones and two pistols.

The Bullens were arrested and transported to the Sullivan County Jail. They have each been charged with possession of Schedule II drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling where drugs are sold, stored or used.

Police said Shawn Bullen “advised officers that he sold OxyContin out of his residence to support his drug habit.”

He has also been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.

The Bullens remain in custody, each under a $100,000 bond.
