Federal indictments lead to drug operation busts

The Morristown Citizen Tribune is reporting that five Cocke County residents have been arrested on indictments returned last week by a federal grand jury seated in Greeneville.

Katherine Plair, 49, and Stanley Stancil, 49, of Mountain Breeze Way, Newport, are charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of equipment, chemicals and materials used to manufacture methamphetamine and maintaining a residence for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine. Stancil also is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Wile serving a warrant on April 30, officers found the methamphetamine operation, two pistols, an assault rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, four other weapons and $959 cash. Equipment used in growning marijuana was found.

Stancil also faces charges in state court including the manufacture of marijuana, possession of methadone and methamphetamine, possession of a prohibited weapon and cruelty to animals because a dog and her pups were in the area of the home in which methamphetamine was being manufactured.

Also arrested was Kenneth "Ratchet" Jenkins, 44, Bat Harbor Road, Newport, charged with the manufacture of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On May 10, officers found 916 marijuana plants growing in Styrofoam planters on the roof of an outbuilding on the Jenkins property.
